Unfortunately he didn’t stop in to see me (rakkity). Anyway I was in Italy, climbing Volcan Stromboli, hiking the coasts, and pigging out on gelati!

But when I got back to Boulder, I had to take off my glasses and check them out to see if the lenses were in. The air here is so clear, the Divide looks like it’s right on the edge of town. Green mountain and its local neighbors have hard edges like they’ve been cut out of cardboard and pasted on the sky. The clouds are sharp and crystalline, like aerial snowfields.
I mean no disrespect to Italy’s Ligurian and Sicilian seashores, but the air there was soft and moist, and the nearby promontories were lost in the mist at only a few miles. It was like being in a painting by Monet. Here it’s Picasso in his cubist phase. I’m glad to be home.
